Over the course of a two months, I designed and built two chairs and a multipurpose table entirely from birch plywood. The chair design is my interpretation/a knockoff of Waka Waka's OG low rider chair. The side table is an amalgamtion of Waka Waka and Shaker styles.
Pieces fit together via notches and holes. The four main pieces of the chair are sturdy on their own. The wooden poles connecting the left and right sides allow the chairs to stay in tact while being moved. Each piece can easily be disassembled and stored flat.
The set sits quite low to the ground, around 8 inches. Custom cushions were made (see picture 1) but the chairs are quite comfortable on their own. The side table can be used as a table or a footrest.
Pieces were finished with satin polyurethane.
In a future iteration I would consider raising the height of the chair so the backrest is more comfortable while using a cushion. I would also reconsider the table top of the side table, shims are currently keeping it from moving (see second side table photo).
